View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Samsung Electronics' 'Bespoke Refrigerator' is evolving to a new level through the 'SmartThings Home Life' update. 'SmartThings Home Life' is an AI-based integrated home appliance solution that connects all home appliances and customizes them for the user.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 13th, through a software update, the 'Sommelier at Home' feature, previously available exclusively for wine refrigerators, can now be used on general Bespoke refrigerators and 'Bespoke Cube Refrigerators' as well.
The Sommelier at Home feature is provided under the 'SmartThings Cooking' category, one of the six services of SmartThings Home Life. It allows users to take photos of wine labels with their smartphones to record desired information such as wine type and vintage, enabling systematic wine management. Additionally, it offers a convenient function that recommends dishes that pair well with the wines you own.
Within SmartThings Cooking, the 'Wine Pairing' feature recommends wines from your collection that match the searched food recipes. The 'Meat Lover Recipe' feature recognizes meat labels, recommends recipes suitable for the type of meat, and automatically cooks using optimal algorithms with compatible cooking devices.
The Sommelier at Home feature applies Samsung Electronics' proprietary deep learning-based wine label extraction and optical character recognition (OCR) technology for wine information recognition, enabling the identification of wine names, origins, vintages, and more from photos taken with a smartphone. Utilizing a database of over 70,000 wines, it provides not only basic information such as wine type, production region, winery, and vintage but also details like alcohol content, body, acidity, and tannin levels, helping users manage their wine efficiently.
The update also enhances the user experience of the 'Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub.' Users can watch the free video service 'Samsung TV Plus' on the screens of Family Hub refrigerators released since 2017, and use the refrigerator as a home IoT hub.
By purchasing a separate dongle and adding it to the Family Hub, users can control not only Samsung Electronics appliances but also various Zigbee-based devices from other manufacturers, including lighting, blinds, switches, motion sensors, and door sensors, through the Family Hub. In July, an update will be provided to enable launching Samsung TV Plus via the voice recognition solution 'Bixby.'
