NewMed Secures Industrial Property Rights for Domestic Technology Improving Prostate Health
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] NewMed, a natural product research and development company, announced on the 12th that it has acquired a domestic patent for the ‘Prostate Health Improvement Composition’ developed using original technology by domestic researchers.
The patented technology relates to a ‘pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia containing Cinnamomum cassia and Rosa laevigata extracts,’ which can be effectively used not only for the prevention or treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia but also as a health functional food.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia refers to a condition where the prostate enlarges and blocks the urinary tract, reducing urine flow. It collectively describes symptoms indicating bladder outlet obstruction such as frequent urination (more than 8 times a day) in men over 50, nocturia, urgency with a strong and sudden need to urinate, urge incontinence, delayed urination, interrupted urine flow, and the need to strain during urination.
NewMed received technology transfer from the Kyung Hee University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation research team in April last year and was selected as a technology transfer commercialization (R&BD) support company in the Hongneung Small Giant Research and Development Special Zone. It is receiving government research and development funding. As a technology transfer commercialization project, it is conducting ‘Development of raw materials for health functional foods for prostate health improvement using Cinnamomum cassia and Rosa laevigata’ to secure domestic original technology functional materials.
According to NewMed’s Central Research Institute, administration of Cinnamomum cassia and Rosa laevigata extracts in an animal model of benign prostatic hyperplasia showed excellent inhibitory effects on prostate enlargement. NewMed is currently conducting human application trials to develop functional raw materials for prostate health improvement.
