According to the Gyeongnam Office of Education, in January, Gyeongnam youth organized the Youth Mock Voting Gyeongnam Movement Headquarters to realize youth suffrage.
Then, they recruited an electorate and conducted a preliminary mock vote from the 27th to the 31st of last month, followed by the main vote on June 1st.
Superintendent Park was elected by receiving 1,438 votes, accounting for 52% of the 2,768 youth electorate in the mock vote conducted by the Youth Mock Voting Gyeongnam Movement Headquarters.
On the morning of the 11th, the headquarters delivered the certificate of election as the "Superintendent directly elected by youth" to Superintendent Park at the Masan Youth Culture House.
Superintendent Park Jong-hoon said, "I feel a different pride and joy in being chosen by our youth," adding, "As superintendent, I will actively implement policies to revitalize student autonomy so that our youth can broadly experience and learn democracy starting from school."
