Why Did Visiting Nurses Resume Activities in Mapo-gu?
33 Visiting Nurses Assigned to Dong Community Centers After Social Distancing Eased... Providing Home Medical Services to Vulnerable Groups and Seniors Aged 65+
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) has resumed the home health care service that was suspended due to COVID-19.
The Mapo-gu Public Health Center had minimized the activities of visiting nurses to focus all efforts on responding to COVID-19.
Recently, as social distancing measures for COVID-19 were eased, the district reorganized its quarantine and medical system and redeployed 33 visiting nurses across 16 neighborhoods.
The home health care service involves visiting nurses assigned to each neighborhood regularly visiting vulnerable groups and seniors aged 65 and older to check their health status and lifestyle habits.
It is a popular program that provides basic medical checkups such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and early dementia screening, and also serves as companions for elderly people living alone.
Additionally, the service connects welfare recipients who need knee replacement surgery, cataract surgery, and other treatments with local hospitals to provide health management services.
Along with this, the district plans to gradually expand health promotion programs for local residents, such as operating village health centers and forming health small groups, in line with COVID-19 social distancing measures.
A district official said, “Many elderly people have had difficulties managing their health due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, and we hope this visiting nurse activity will alleviate their inconveniences. We will continue to strengthen the health care system so that seniors can enjoy a healthy and happy life in the community.”
