Creation of Robot Street on Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu
June 2 Announcement of Selection for 'AI·5G-Based Large-Scale Robot Convergence Model Demonstration Project'... Operation of 11 Autonomous Robots in 3 Types
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) was selected on the 2nd for the ‘AI·5G-based Large-scale Robot Convergence Model Demonstration Project’ organized by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement and will actively promote the ‘Teheran-ro Robot Street Development Project.’
This project is a large-scale initiative where 11 autonomous service robots of 3 types (photo) serve and deliver at F&B stores near COEX Mall and Teheran-ro and in large-scale buildings. A total of 1.97 billion KRW will be invested, including 970 million KRW from the national government, 600 million KRW from the city government, and 400 million KRW from the district government.
Gangnam-gu’s ‘Teheran-ro Robot Street Development Project’ will proceed in two phases from June this year to December next year, involving six organizations: Gangnam-gu, Seoul City, Woowa Brothers (Baedal Minjok), LG Electronics, WTC Seoul, and LX Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation.
In the first phase this year, the serving robot ‘Dilly Plate’ will operate at food and beverage stores in COEX Mall, and the indoor delivery robot ‘Dilly Tower’ will operate between COEX Mall and Trade Tower. In the second phase in 2023, outdoor delivery robot ‘Dilly Drive’ and indoor delivery robot services will be demonstrated together on Teheran-ro.
Yoon Jong-min, Director of the Smart City Division, said, “Gangnam-gu has led Korea’s robot industry through projects such as the ‘Suseo Robot Hub District Development.’ We hope that COEX, Teheran-ro, and Suseo, the largest business towns in Korea, will lead Gangnam-gu to become the nation’s number one ‘robot-friendly future city.’”
