Gochang-gun Launches Smoking Cessation Campaign at Traditional Market and Gochang Goseo

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] The Gochang-gun Public Health Center in Jeonbuk conducted a smoking cessation campaign at the traditional market and Gochang High School on the 8th in observance of 'World No Tobacco Day.'

According to the Gochang-gun Public Health Center on the 9th, 'World No Tobacco Day' is held annually on May 31st. It was designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987, marking its 40th anniversary, to create a smoke-free society, and this year marks the 35th observance.

This campaign carried the slogan, "Tobacco, from start to finish, is all environmental destruction," highlighting that smoking harms not only people but also the Earth's environment.

Additionally, smoking cessation booklets and promotional materials were distributed to promote a voluntary smoking cessation culture.

For students and staff at Gochang High School, smoking cessation educational models were displayed, showing the shape of smokers' lungs and harmful substances in cigarettes to raise awareness of the seriousness of smoking.

The Gochang-gun Public Health Center operates a smoking cessation clinic year-round for smokers.

They are promoting various smoking cessation campaigns to encourage smokers to quit and to create a smoke-free environment to protect non-smokers from secondhand smoke exposure. These efforts also respond to the changing smoking environment, including the emergence of new tobacco products and the increasing smoking rates among women and youth.

Yu Byungsoo, head of the Public Health Center, said, "Since smoking negatively affects the health of individuals and others, I hope this campaign raises awareness of the importance of quitting smoking and serves as an opportunity to create a healthy community environment."
