Yeonggwang-gun 'Yeonggwang Beopseongpo Danoje Ssireum Tournament' Successfully Concluded
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do successfully concluded the 2022 Yeonggwang Beopseongpo Dano Festival Ssireum Tournament.
According to the county on the 8th, the ssireum tournament held from the 3rd to the 5th during the Dano Festival at the Beopseongpo New Town special ssireum arena was exciting and diverse, featuring competitions such as the Dano Champion, town and township, school contests, and the Presidential Cup National Ssireum King Jeollanam-do Selection Tournament.
In the Dano Champion ssireum tournament, Song Taegon (Gwangju Technical High School) won the high school division, Moon Seonghyeok (Gwangju Yongbong Middle School) won the middle school division, and Yoon Jaeseong (Suncheon Palma Elementary School) won the elementary division. In the town and township competition, Gunseo-myeon took first place, Myoryang-myeon was runner-up, and Daema-myeon and Yeomsan-myeon tied for third place.
In the school team competition, Yeonggwang Elementary School won the elementary division, Beopseong Middle School won the middle school division, and Yeonggwang Technical High School won the high school division. In the individual competition, Shim Hyeongseon (Jungang Elementary School) won the elementary division, Jo Jaeyoon (Beopseong Middle School) won the middle school division, and Kim Hyungyu (Haeryong High School) won the high school division.
In the Presidential Cup National Ssireum King Jeollanam-do Selection Tournament, Kim Geon (Yeonggwang Technical High School) won the high school division, Lee Jaewoo won the youth division, and Jeong Hwanjin won the middle-aged division, greatly contributing to the overall victory of the host Yeonggwang-gun.
A county official stated, "We will continue to hold ssireum tournaments to promote harmony among local residents and strive to preserve traditional culture."
Meanwhile, at the Beopseongpo ssireum arena, IHQ’s popular entertainment program ‘Self-Sufficient Expedition’ featured a surprise appearance by Cheonhajangsa Lee Mangi, who faced off against the region’s top ssireum wrestler Wonil, thrilling many spectators and bringing back fond memories and enjoyment.
