Jeongeup-si to Provide Taxi Drivers with 3 Million Won 'Income Stability Support Fund'
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 8th that it will provide an income stabilization support fund of 3 million KRW per person to corporate (general) taxi drivers whose sales have decreased due to COVID-19.
The support budget is approximately 588 million KRW to provide 3 million KRW each to 196 corporate taxi drivers.
The support targets are corporate general taxi drivers classified as employees or transportation workers whose income reduction has been confirmed.
Additionally, they must have been employed before April 1 and still be continuously working.
The sales and income reduction criteria recognize cases where sales or income decreases were confirmed during the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th rounds of support.
However, those eligible for the small business loss compensation fund supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) are excluded from the support.
Applications must be submitted by the drivers to their affiliated taxi corporations by the 14th, and the taxi corporations will collect and submit them to the local government (Jeongeup City).
The city plans to verify the employment continuity requirements and, if sales or income reduction is recognized, provide a one-time payment of 3 million KRW per worker by the end of this month.
A city official said, "We hope this support fund will help general taxi drivers who are facing great difficulties such as a decrease in passengers to overcome damages and stabilize employment, even if only a little," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure the payment is made as quickly as possible."
