Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station Urges Prevention of Air Conditioner Fires
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Northern Fire Station announced on the 8th that it is urging special attention to fire prevention by conducting air conditioner safety inspections and adhering to safety rules during use ahead of the full-scale summer season.
According to the Fire Agency, over the past five years, there have been 1,168 air conditioner fires nationwide, resulting in 4 deaths, 32 injuries, and approximately 5 billion KRW in property damage.
Air conditioner fires gradually increase from June and are concentrated in July and August. The main causes are electrical factors such as short circuits due to poor contact, followed by fires caused by carelessness such as cigarette butts, and mechanical factors like overheating.
To prevent air conditioner fires, it is recommended to ▲ use single wires for air conditioners and check for wire damage ▲ avoid placing flammable materials around the outdoor unit ▲ thoroughly remove dust from the air conditioner and check for abnormalities before operation ▲ request expert inspection if problems occur with the outdoor unit.
