Gyeongnam Governor Transition Committee Launched, "Will Manage Provincial Affairs Firmly from the Start"

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Wansu, the governor-elect of Gyeongnam Province, announced the formation of the governor’s transition committee on the 7th and began full-scale activities.
On the same day, Park Wansu held a press conference at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Press Center to introduce the ‘Transition Team That Is Certain from the Start.’
He said, “The name was chosen to express the commitment to firmly manage provincial administration,” adding, “Since there has been a long gap in provincial administration, quickly stabilizing it is the way to ease the concerns of the residents.”
He also explained, “The team is solidly composed mainly of experts in various fields with prestige and scholarship, as well as public officials well-versed in practical work.”

View original imageThe transition team is composed of five divisions: Planning and Coordination, Industrial Economy, Construction Safety, Culture and Welfare, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, with Jeong Sisik, representative of the Gyeongnam Citizens’ Sovereignty Coalition, serving as the team leader.
Jeong Sisik also concurrently serves as the head of the Planning and Coordination division, with Lee Youngil, a former policy secretary of the National Assembly Speaker’s Secretariat and former aide to Assemblyman Park Wansu, acting as a committee member.
The Industrial Economy division is led by Dr. Song Buyong, former head of the Research Planning Office at the Gyeongnam Research Institute, and Ms. Jeong Hyunmi, who specializes in international logistics and ports. Dr. Song also serves as the secretary of the transition team.
The Construction Safety division includes Professor Moon Taehyun of the Department of Urban Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, urban design expert Associate Professor Yoon Youngshim, also of the Department of Urban Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, while the Culture and Welfare division is composed of former Assemblywoman Jeong Yeonhee, who served as chair of the Economic and Environmental Committee of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, and Professor Ha Chungkwang of the Department of Social Welfare at Gyeongnam University.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment division is led by Park Kyunghun, Director of Planning at Changwon National University and an environmental planning expert, along with Dr. Chae Dongryeol, a research fellow at the Gyeongnam Research Institute.
The transition team will focus on setting the direction for the 8th elected provincial administration, discovering key policies by sector, selecting the most urgent tasks in provincial administration, and concretizing the necessary organization and budget to implement campaign promises.
Separately from the transition team, Governor-elect Park announced that the four major structural reforms promised during the election?economic, social, regional, and administrative?will be carried out without delay.
A dedicated organizational innovation team will be formed within the provincial government to support activities for administrative innovation, and plans will be made to find ways to change the organizational culture centered on young lower-level public officials.
The 8th elected Gyeongnam provincial administration will prioritize resident-centered governance, opening an online communication channel within this week to listen to residents’ opinions, and will also promote a public contest for the provincial government slogan and the utilization plan of the governor’s official residence, which was promised to be returned to the residents.
Governor-elect Park said, “I promised during the election to be a governor who does not distinguish between ‘my side’ and ‘the other side,’” and explained the background of appointing the transition team leader by saying, “Going forward, I will respect and reflect any opinions that help the development of Gyeongnam.”

He added, “As I operate the provincial administration, I will set policy directions so that the 3.4 million residents become the owners of the administration,” and said, “I will derive measures for a working administration, balanced regional development where all residents prosper evenly, and a safe and happy life through organizational innovation.”
