FKI Holds Event Inviting Bereaved Families to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of Yeonpyeong Naval Battle Victory
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] The Federation of Korean Industries (hereinafter FKI) announced on the 7th that it held a commemorative event by inviting veterans and their bereaved families to mark the 20th anniversary of the victory in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong.
The FKI planned this event to honor the spirit of sacrifice of the veterans who participated in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong for the nation and to commemorate the victory that protected national security and the lives of the people.
Huh Chang-soo, chairman of the FKI, borrowed the words of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, "Without a ship, we cannot survive," saying, "If the Chamsuri 357 had not existed, we would not have been able to protect our West Sea," and added, "I hope this becomes an opportunity for the business community and the public to remember the veterans of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, to reflect on their gratitude, and to realize the importance of security."
He then emphasized the inseparable relationship between the economy and security, adding, "So that the noble sacrifices made for the country are not in vain, the business community will also fulfill its mission to protect economic security and build a prosperous Republic of Korea."
On this day, the FKI presented scholarships to Jo Si-eun, daughter of the late Sergeant Jo Cheon-hyeong, who is expected to follow in her father's footsteps and join the Navy, and to the Bada Sarang Navy Scholarship Foundation, which supports children of Navy personnel.
