CJ CheilJedang Conducts Beach Cleanup Volunteer Activity on 'World Environment Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 5th that its employees participated in a volunteer activity to clean up a beach in celebration of World Environment Day.
This activity is part of the marine debris reduction policy called the ‘Banryeo Beach Campaign.’ About 50 CJ CheilJedang employees collected waste such as discarded plastics at Masian Beach and the nearby coastal road in Yeongjongdo, Incheon. The employees separated the waste into recyclable and non-recyclable items and recorded the types and amounts in real time to verify the amount of carbon reduction.
CJ CheilJedang plans to carry out cleanup activities linked to International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 17) in the second half of this year and engage in the Banryeo Beach Campaign more than three times annually. Additionally, the company intends to actively participate in environmental protection campaigns in collaboration with other companies.
A CJ CheilJedang representative said, “This meaningful volunteer activity near the Incheon dumpling factory, which laid the foundation for the globalization of K-Food, allowed us to contribute to marine environmental conservation. We will actively implement ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management policies to protect the Earth, our home.”

CJ CheilJedang adopted Masian Beach as a ‘Banryeo Beach’ in September last year. The Banryeo Beach system is a private-sector participatory beach management campaign that adopts a certain section of the beach to care for and maintain it like a pet, aiming to collect marine debris and improve the landscape. It began in Texas, USA, in 1986 and has spread worldwide. In Korea, it is overseen by the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and was first piloted in Jeju Island in 2020.
