Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters Implements Fire Prevention Measures for Waste-Related Facilities
Risks of Hot and Humid Summer Conditions... Strengthening Safety Management
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Jeollabuk-do Fire Headquarters (Chief Choi Min-cheol) announced on the 2nd that it will implement fire prevention measures for waste-related facilities, where heat accumulation such as spontaneous combustion is a major cause of fire, due to rising temperatures in summer.
According to the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters, an analysis of fire statistics over the past five years (2017-2021) shows that a total of 17 fires occurred in waste-related facilities in the province, resulting in one casualty and property damage amounting to approximately 620 million KRW.
The main causes of the fires were chemical factors with 7 cases, mechanical factors with 4 cases, natural factors with 2 cases, negligence with 2 cases, and others with 2 cases.
It was also analyzed that about 64.7% of the fires occurred on days with relatively high humidity (70% or higher).
Accordingly, the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters plans to strengthen safety management to prevent fires from occurring in waste piled up in the hot and humid summer environment until July 8.
The main initiatives include ▲special fire inspections of waste-related facilities ▲fire safety consulting by fire station chiefs for vulnerable targets ▲sending letters from fire station chiefs and other fire prevention promotions.
In particular, considering the characteristics of waste fires that require a lot of manpower, equipment, and time for firefighting, the headquarters plans to strengthen preventive patrols for early fire response.
Chief Choi Min-cheol said, “Firefighting is difficult when waste fires occur, raising concerns about significant damage to related companies,” and added, “We will strive to reduce waste fires in the province through active fire prevention measures.”
