Gang Impersonating SH to Embezzle 10.7 Billion Won in Jeonse Deposit Sent to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A group that embezzled 10.7 billion KRW by deceiving victims into securing cheap rental houses through the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) housing support project has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 31st, the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they arrested and sent Mr. A, in his 50s, to the prosecution on charges of fraud and forgery of private documents under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, and sent four accomplices without detention.
Mr. A is accused of disguising himself as the representative of an SH partner company from 2015 until February this year, deceiving victims by promising to find cheap rental houses through existing housing lease rentals, and embezzling 10.7 billion KRW in rental deposits. According to the police investigation, 65 victims have been confirmed so far, most of whom are acquaintances of the criminal group.
They committed the crime by signing contracts for apartments and officetels in Gangdong-gu, then showing fake rental lease contracts to the victims and collecting the rental deposits.
