Newbility and SK Telecom Sign Business Agreement... "Targeting Autonomous Delivery Robot Market"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] Autonomous driving robot delivery platform company Newbility announced on the 27th that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK Telecom to jointly develop and commercialize an autonomous driving robot last-mile delivery service.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to aggressively target the autonomous driving robot delivery market by optimally integrating Newbility’s advanced autonomous driving technology of its delivery robot ‘NEUBIE’ with SK Telecom’s AI solutions. To this end, both companies will focus on improving service quality for the commercial deployment of autonomous driving robot delivery services.
Newbility’s self-developed ‘NEUBIE’ is an autonomous driving short-distance last-mile delivery robot that secures price competitiveness by applying a camera-based autonomous driving solution instead of expensive LiDAR sensors. Additionally, starting last year in the Songdo area of Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and expanding to Seocho-gu and Songpa-gu in Seoul, it has successfully conducted pilot services delivering chicken, convenience store products, and lunch boxes, earning a reputation for being optimized to perform autonomous driving delivery tasks in complex urban environments. Recently, it secured 23 billion KRW in Series A investment, solidifying its position as a leading company in autonomous driving delivery robots.
SK Telecom plans to link essential autonomous driving technologies such as obstacle detection and avoidance for robots to ‘NEUBIE’ through its space modeling and positioning solution ‘VLAM,’ based on artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT). The AI and cloud server-based control and operation platform ‘Grand View’ will also be applied.
