Troublesome Properties in the City Center Turned into Vitality Boosters! ... Jinju-si to Promote Vacant House Renovation Projects at Over 80 Locations This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province has been implementing the ‘Vacant House Maintenance Project’ since January this year to address the issue of long-term abandoned vacant houses that detract from the urban landscape and pose safety hazards.
Jinju City's ‘Vacant House Maintenance Project’ focuses on improving the residential environment by demolishing or securing abandoned vacant houses using a total city budget of 400 million KRW this year, transforming these spaces into public-interest areas that resolve crime-prone zones and enhance residents' quality of life.
The city is currently carrying out demolition and safety measures on 18 sites that applied in the first phase out of a total of about 80 vacant house sites targeted for this year's project.
After the completion of the first phase, the city plans to select additional vacant houses for the second phase of the maintenance project by August to accommodate owners who have not yet applied.
Among the vacant houses demolished in the first phase (with landowners' consent), the city will develop the spaces into communal facilities for residents for three years, considering urban aesthetics and suitability for resident convenience facilities.
