[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Korea Arts & Culture Education Service announced on the 24th that it will implement the 2022 Arts-Data Matching Support Project.

This project was established to create a sustainable foundation for artistic creation by mediating the creation and dissemination of artworks utilizing data and data services.

The project targets artists (groups) who want to challenge technology convergence art but find it difficult to find information on data technology, data services, and technology companies available for collaboration. In the first stage of the competition, selected capable technology companies provide data services catalogued to guide and support artists through matching with companies they wish to collaborate with, in the form of vouchers. This is the first time this type of project has been introduced in the arts sector.

The Arts Council recruited capable technology companies through the first stage of the competition from March 29 to April 19, a period of 22 days. After comprehensively evaluating data technology utilization capabilities and safety, six companies were selected, including those supporting production of works using motion capture technology and 3D scan data services.

The selected data companies will support the creation and dissemination activities of artists’ (groups’) works by maximizing the use of their own technologies and services.

The project will be conducted with a total budget of 400 million KRW and is expected to support about 20 services this year.

Applications will be accepted through the National Culture and Arts Support System (NCAS) until 6 p.m. on June 13. The Arts Council will announce the project on its website and simultaneously hold a ‘Non-face-to-face Data Company Technology Briefing’ from 2 p.m. on the 25th to help understand the arts field and encourage more participation.

An official from the Arts Council said, “We aim to lower the barriers between art and technology to increase the utilization rate of data in the arts field, and furthermore, to expand the field of convergence art, discover technology convergence services, foster innovative artistic creation, develop products and services, and support startups, thereby creating a sustainable arts ecosystem.” He added, “We hope for the interest and participation of many artists (groups) who will create new future art together.”
