Gyeongbuk Province Vice Governor Ha Daesung Meets with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Business Delegation
Attending the World Gas Conference, Gyeongbuk Province and Nigeria Discuss Economic and Energy Cooperation Plans
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] On the 24th, Ha Dae-seong, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, met with a delegation of company representatives including Chuba Okadibo, Chairman of the Board of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and Melekolo Kyari, CEO, as well as Ali Mohamed Magashi, Nigerian Ambassador to Korea, at the VIP Room (Sky Garden) of Daegu EXCO.
Nigeria ranks 10th in the world in oil reserves and 9th in natural gas reserves, and is considered an emerging developing country with great growth potential.
This meeting was held to discuss the possibilities of economic and energy cooperation between Gyeongbuk Province and Nigeria.
The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, established in 1977 under the Nigerian federal government, is a global petroleum company covering all sectors of the oil industry from exploration and development of oil and natural gas to refining, petrochemicals, transportation, and marketing.
Gyeongbuk Province is promoting the ‘Rice Project,’ a Saemaul Undong cooperation project with Nigeria.
The Rice Project is being carried out together with Katsina State and Dankote Company to solve poverty in Nigeria by transferring local rice farming cultivation techniques to strengthen capabilities and increase agricultural productivity.
The cultivated area, which was only 1 hectare in 2019, has expanded to 10 hectares in 2021, strengthening mutual cooperation.
