Jinju City Begins Operation of 'Crosswalk Shade Shelters' to Prepare for Heatwave!
Early Operation of Shade Shelters... Active Response to Early Heatwave
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, has removed and deployed shade covers at crosswalks to protect citizens' health and safety from the early scorching heat this summer, and resumed the operation of crosswalk shades from the 4th of this month.
This year's shade operation period is from May 4 to September 30, which is two weeks earlier than usual. This early start is a proactive response to the early arrival of heatwaves due to climate change, aimed at protecting citizens' health from heat-related illnesses.
The heatwave-prevention shades are sunshades installed on traffic islands at intersections to allow citizens waiting at crosswalks to avoid heat and sunlight, helping to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke.
The city will take swift safety measures, such as securing the shades, in case of weather anomalies like typhoons and strong winds during the operation period to ensure citizens' safety.
