[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] A public opinion poll on the by-election candidate approval ratings in Gyeyang-eul, Incheon, showed that Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, was overtaken within the margin of error by Yoon Hyung-sun, the People Power Party candidate.
On the 21st, STI conducted a public opinion poll over two days from the 19th to the 20th targeting 880 adult men and women aged 18 or older residing in the Gyeyang-eul electoral district in Incheon (using virtual number ARS, 95% confidence level, sampling error ±3.3 percentage points, cell-weighted extraction). When asked about the 'candidate for Gyeyang-eul National Assembly member support,' Lee received 45.8%, and Yoon received 49.5%.
The gap in approval ratings between the two candidates was 3.7 percentage points, which is unusual compared to recent polls where Lee was leading Yoon.
Responses indicating no preferred candidate accounted for 3.1%, and those who were unsure accounted for 1.7%.
Additionally, 92.9% responded that they would continue to support their candidate, while 6.1% said they might change their preferred candidate. Those unsure accounted for 1.1%.
However, when asked about the likelihood of winning, Lee was rated higher at 49.8%, compared to Yoon at 45.9%.
Regarding the nature of this local and by-election, 50.7% said, "We need to support the People Power Party candidate for the current government's national stability," while 43.8% said, "We need to support opposition candidates such as the Democratic Party to check the current government."
