Candidate Nogwan-gyu Proposes Establishing a Middle School in Seomyeon and Gagok Districts as a Campaign Promise
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Independent candidate for Suncheon Mayor, Noh Gwan-gyu, announced on the 18th that following his pledge to establish a high school in the Shindae district, he will establish a middle school in the Seomyeon and Gagok districts, which are growing as new development axes in the old downtown area.
Candidate Noh said, "Recently, while carrying a backpack and walking around every corner of Suncheon City for election campaigning, I have been able to interact a lot with citizens, which is great, and I have been able to hear detailed and diverse voices from the community, which is very good." He explained that the pledge to establish a middle school in the Seomyeon and Gagok districts was "a conclusion reached after reviewing based on the vivid voices of citizens heard on site."
Noh stated, "During the election campaign, I occasionally discussed the direction of Suncheon education development with candidates for the superintendent of education, and as a result, a strong consensus was formed on the necessity of establishing a middle school in the Seomyeon and Gagok districts."
So far, due to the establishment of schools mainly in new towns, there has been a strong perception that students and parents in the old downtown area have been relatively discriminated against, which acts as a hindrance to Suncheon City's education and balanced regional development.
Candidate Noh emphasized, "If there is no middle school, young generations tend to avoid the area, so a middle school is absolutely necessary in the Seomyeon and Gagok districts, which cover not only Seomyeon but also the Gagok-dong area."
