Jeju Air 'Work-Life Balance'... "93% Return Rate from Parental Leave"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Jeju Air announced on the 18th that the average return-to-work rate after parental leave for its employees over the past five years was 93%.
As the employment of female workers continues to increase, Jeju Air has introduced various systems to help employees balance work and family life. These include maternity leave before and after childbirth, parental leave, shortened working hours during pregnancy and childcare periods, family care leave and vacation, pregnancy leave for female flight attendants starting from the point they become aware of their pregnancy, infertility treatment leave and infertility leave for all female employees, operating maternal protection systems and encouraging their free use.
The number of parental leave cases over the past five years has steadily increased, including male employees, with 54 cases in 2018, 66 in 2019, 73 in 2020, and 94 last year. As of May 18 this year, the number of parental leave cases has reached 71.
The rate of male employees taking parental leave was 25.9% in 2018 and 18.2% in 2019, but due to the implementation of leave and furlough systems to maintain employment during COVID-19, it decreased to 12.3% in 2020 and 6.4% last year. However, as of May 18 this year, it accounts for 21.1%.
Additionally, the return-to-work rate after parental leave has remained in the 90% range over the past five years, and the retention rate after one year of return has shown an increasing trend: 91.8% in 2018, 93.8% in 2019, and 97% in 2020. Both last year and this year have recorded a 100% retention rate.
Furthermore, since December 2018, Jeju Air has operated a flexible staggered working hours system that allows employees who need to adjust their working hours due to childcare or other reasons to choose their working hours flexibly. Since April 2019, a half-day leave system has also been implemented, allowing employees to adjust their commuting hours for simple personal matters such as hospital visits or bank errands.
