Gwangju Buk-gu Initiates Spread of Resource Circulation Culture in Daily Life
Promotion for Residents and Businesses Ahead of Disposable Cup Deposit System Implementation
Efforts to Foster a Resource Circulation Culture Including Paper Pack and Used Battery Exchange Programs
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City is set to promote a culture of practicing resource circulation in daily life ahead of the implementation of the disposable cup deposit system.
According to Buk-gu on the 18th, publicity will be conducted targeting residents and businesses using disposable cups until the 9th of next month regarding the deposit system implementation.
The disposable cup deposit system requires businesses to charge a 300 won deposit on disposable cups, which is refunded when the user returns the cup. This system is implemented to promote the collection and recycling of disposable cups.
Accordingly, Buk-gu plans to distribute promotional materials and conduct campaigns targeting residents who use disposable cups and businesses such as rest areas, general restaurants, and bakeries with 100 or more operating stores as of December 31, 2019.
In addition, Buk-gu will also promote a program exchanging paper cartons and used batteries.
Residents who bring emptied and dried paper cartons of milk, juice, etc. to their local administrative welfare center can exchange 1kg of cartons for 2 rolls of toilet paper, and used batteries can be exchanged at a rate of 1 set (2 pieces) of AA or AAA batteries for every 20 used batteries.
A Buk-gu official stated, “We will continue to actively strive to reduce waste generation in daily life and ensure the circulation of recyclable resources.”
