Prosecution Seeks Death Penalty for Lee Seok-jun in 'Murder of Mother under Personal Protection' Case

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The prosecution has demanded the death penalty for Lee Seokjun (26), who was tried on charges of murdering the family of a woman under protective custody.
At the sentencing hearing for Lee Seokjun held on the 17th at the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Lee Jongchae), the prosecution requested the court to impose the death penalty. The prosecution stated, "There are no mitigating factors at all, and the bereaved family also strongly desires severe punishment," adding, "We believe that a punishment that permanently excludes him from society is not harsh enough."

Lee Seokjun was tried on charges of visiting the home of Ms. A, a woman under protective custody, last December and murdering her mother. Lee faces charges including retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, attempted murder, preparation for murder, rape and injury, violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (using and distributing camera footage), confinement, and violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.
