Sejong Jochiwon 'Military Noise' Damage Compensation to Begin in August
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Compensation for residents affected by military noise at Jochiwon Airfield in Sejong will be paid starting in August.
Sejong City announced on the 17th that the 'Military Noise Countermeasure Deliberation Committee' reviewed and approved the eligibility and compensation amounts for residents affected by military noise at Jochiwon Airfield.
The payment of military noise compensation is being implemented for the first time this year in accordance with the "Act on Prevention of Noise and Compensation for Damage from Military Airfields and Military Shooting Ranges," enacted in November 2019.
The eligible recipients are residents who had their registered address in the noise countermeasure area and lived there between November 27, 2020, and December 31, 2021.
Compensation amounts will be calculated and paid individually according to legal standards.
The noise countermeasure areas are classified into Types 1, 2, and 3 based on the aircraft noise unit, Wekel, and the military noise affected area of Jochiwon Airfield corresponds to Type 3.
The compensation amount is up to 30,000 KRW per month and may be reduced depending on the time of moving in, length of residence, and workplace location.
The total number of applications from the military noise affected area of Jochiwon Airfield is 109 cases (application rate 77%), with total compensation amounting to 27 million KRW.
Military noise compensation will be individually notified by the end of this month. If there are objections to the decided compensation, objections can be filed from June to July. If no objection is filed, compensation will be paid at the end of August.
Residents who did not apply for military noise damage compensation this year can apply retroactively including missed applications during next year's application period, and applications are possible within five years after the announcement period for compensation applications.
