Hanwha Investment & Securities Wins '2021 Deal of the Year' in Ship Lease Finance Sector
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Hanwha Investment & Securities announced on the 16th that it has won the ‘2021 Deal of the Year’ in the ship lease finance category selected by Marine Money, a global ship finance forum.
Marine Money is a globally prestigious shipping specialized forum organization that hosts various shipping finance forums such as academic seminars and market outlooks targeting shipping and related industry stakeholders, and selects and awards the ‘Deal of the Year’ in each category annually.
The ‘2021 Deal of the Year’ ship lease finance category awarded to Hanwha Investment & Securities is a financing project for six liquefied natural gas carriers ordered by the Norwegian shipping company Knutsen from Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea, with a total financing scale reaching 970 million USD.
This project is a midstream (processing and transportation) investment asset based on long-term charter contracts signed by the oil major Shell and the Polish Gas Company (PGNIG), with participation from leading domestic and international financial institutions including Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, BNP Paribas, and Societe Generale. Hanwha Investment & Securities participated as a subordinated major lender with a scale of 60 billion KRW.
Kim Guk-sung, Head of the Global ESG Business Division at Hanwha Investment & Securities, stated, “We hope this will be a good opportunity for ship finance to be revitalized again in the domestic market.”
