[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The group BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) achieved a triple crown at the '2022 Billboard Music Awards' (BBMA). With wins in three categories, BTS set a record of winning for six consecutive years.
The American music media Billboard announced the list of winners for the '2022 Billboard Music Awards' in advance on the 15th (local time). BTS won in three categories: ‘Top Duo/Group’, ‘Top Song Sales Artist’, and ‘Top Selling Song’.
The Billboard Music Awards are considered one of the three major American popular music award ceremonies alongside the 'American Music Awards' (AMA) and the 'Grammy Awards'. A distinctive feature is that winners are selected based on Billboard chart records.
This year, BTS was nominated in six categories, drawing attention to whether they would achieve the most wins in history. Starting with the ‘Top Social Artist’ award in 2017, BTS won all nominated categories last year, achieving four awards.
With this triple crown, BTS has achieved a record of winning at the Billboard Music Awards for six consecutive years.
The winners in categories where BTS was nominated were: Ed Sheeran for ‘Top Billboard Global Artist’ (excluding the U.S.), The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s ‘Stay’ for ‘Top Billboard Global Song’ (excluding the U.S.), and the band M?neskin for ‘Top Rock Song’.
