Seoul City to Award Up to 10 Million KRW to Groups Saving Over 10% Energy in Summer
Corporate, Individual Business Owners, and Organizations Eligible to Join Eco Mileage Until the 31st
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 17th that it will start the 'Summer Eco Mileage Group Member Energy Saving Competition' from June 1 to reduce energy consumption during the peak energy usage period from June to September and encourage greenhouse gas reduction. Corporations, individual businesses, and organizations located in Seoul that are registered with Eco Mileage will receive prize money of up to 10 million KRW based on their energy usage scale.
This competition targets Eco Mileage group members who have reduced their energy consumption by more than 10% compared to the same period in the previous two years. Awards will be given based on a comprehensive evaluation of greenhouse gas reduction and excellent practice cases. The 'greenhouse gas reduction rate' refers to the reduction ratio compared to the average value of the previous two years. A minimum of 20 points is awarded for a reduction of 10% to less than 11%, with an additional 1 point added for each 1% increment, and a maximum score of 40 points is given for reductions of 30% or more.
All corporations, individual businesses, and organizations located in Seoul can participate in this competition. Public institutions and high energy-consuming businesses using 2000 TOE or more are excluded. Public institutions such as public libraries and buildings under city or district government agencies cannot participate. Apartment complexes will have a separate competition for selecting eco-friendly exemplary apartments.
Especially for small business owners (energy usage less than 10 TOE) who are struggling due to COVID-19, evaluation will be based solely on the greenhouse gas reduction rate. Members who have registered their electricity bills in their Eco Mileage membership information and reduce greenhouse gases by more than 10% will receive 50,000 mileage points to verify normal business operations.
To participate, register as a group member on the Eco Mileage website by the 31st and register at least two customer numbers among electricity (mandatory), water, and city gas. The evaluation schedule proceeds in the order of extracting energy usage data of the target group members → submission of practice cases → first and second evaluations based on reduction amount, reduction rate, and practice case data → announcement of selection results and prize money payment. Prize money ranges from a minimum of 500,000 KRW to a maximum of 10 million KRW. After evaluation by group member type and scale, one grand prize, two excellence awards, and approximately 15 to 45 encouragement awards will be selected according to the scale of energy usage.
Meanwhile, Seoul City analyzes the characteristics and energy-saving practice cases of past award-winning groups by type and scale to share award-winning know-how. This is to induce greenhouse gas reduction effects through proven energy-saving methods and to enhance the synergy effect of energy saving.
