[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Se-eun] It has been confirmed that the Ukrainian military used a program similar to the 'Uber app' when annihilating Russian forces.
On the 14th (local time), the British newspaper The Times reported that Ukraine used a tactical program called GIS Arta.
GIS Arta operates similarly to the Uber app, which assigns the nearest driver to a passenger, by identifying targets and quickly selecting the appropriate attack weapon from nearby mortars, missiles, combat drones, and other weapons.
When reconnaissance drones, rangefinders, smartphones, and NATO-provided radar accurately determine the enemy's location, the program selects the most suitable weapon for attacking that area.
According to the report, the usual time from receiving enemy location information to initiating an attack is 20 minutes, but using GIS Arta reduces this to 1-2 minutes. It also offers advantages such as enabling rapid attacks and launching assaults from multiple directions without concentrating artillery.
Additionally, by calculating the timing to hit the target, it allows simultaneous attacks from different locations, causing confusion in Russian counterattacks.
GIS Arta was developed a few years ago by Ukrainian programmers in collaboration with a British company.
Volodymyr, one of the developers and owners of the program, recently commented on the attack that annihilated Russian forces crossing the river, saying, "Information about the Siverskyi Donets River situation was in GIS Arta," and added, "We can confirm that appropriate targets were assigned to the attack means, but we cannot say that only this was used."
It is estimated that during the attack on the 8th, Russian forces crossing the Siverskyi Donets River lost 73 tanks and armored vehicles and about 1,500 personnel.
GIS Arta is used not only for attacks but also for defense.
Another developer of the program, Viktor, explained, "It can also predict missile target points," adding, "This allows us to issue evacuation warnings to our troops." Furthermore, the program marks schools, hospitals, and other civilian facilities on the map in different colors to prevent civilian casualties during attacks.
The GIS Arta team also expressed gratitude to Elon Musk. The program stated, "We appreciate Musk's urgent support in resolving Ukraine's communication issues at the beginning of the war."
