Chonnam National University Hospital Commemorates 42nd Anniversary with 5·18 Cemetery Visit
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam National University Hospital (Director Ahn Young-geun) paid tribute at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement.
According to Jeonnam National University Hospital on the 15th, recently, Director Ahn Young-geun along with about 30 medical staff and employees visited the 5·18 Cemetery to offer flowers and incense, honoring the spirits of the fallen.
The tribute was held to continue the noble medical spirit of the senior medical staff who, in the horrific medical conditions reminiscent of a field hospital in May 1980, suppressed anger and fear and devoted themselves to treatment day and night, and to pay respect to the souls of the democratic martyrs who sacrificed under military oppression.
They visited the graves of martyr Yoon Sang-won, a Jeonnam National University political science and diplomacy student and spokesperson for the citizen army; martyr Park Gwan-hyeon (Department of Public Administration), former president of the Jeonnam National University student council; martyr Lee Byung-hyu, a medical student at Jeonnam National University; and professors Myung No-geun and Lee Seok-yeon of Jeonnam National University. Participants also offered flowers at the graves of other victims.
Director Ahn wrote in the guestbook, “With the spirit of May that healed the pains of the era, we will heal the pains of the citizens and stand together.”
