Opening of Jeong Won-oh, Candidate for Seongdong-gu Mayor, Election Office Draws Great Crowd
Over 1,300 District Residents Attend, Confirming Strong Bonds with Locals Without Inviting Outsiders... Candidate Jeong Won-oh Resolves Seongdong-gu's Three Major Pending Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung Won-oh, the Democratic Party candidate for Seongdong-gu Mayor, held a grand opening ceremony for his election office on the 13th at 3 PM near Muhak Girls' High School in Seongdong-gu, with about 1,300 local residents in attendance.
This opening ceremony broke away from the usual format of inviting celebrities and outsiders to give speeches, instead inviting only local residents ranging from youth to seniors. The event highlighted the campaign's commitment to repaying the gratitude of the residents who elected him in the 2018 local elections with the highest vote share of 69.46% among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts during his re-election.
In fact, from 3 PM to 6 PM, about 1,300 local residents of Seongdong-gu, from young to elderly, gathered in such numbers that lines formed continuously from the first floor, demonstrating the strong trust the residents have in candidate Jung Won-oh.
Addressing the residents who attended the opening, candidate Jung said, “The residents gave me the highest vote share in Seoul of 69.46% in the last local election, and to repay that grace, I have worked tirelessly for the past four years.” He added, “Because I worked together with the residents, we were able to resolve the three major pending projects: the removal of Sampyo Remicon, the expansion of Jangteo-gil in front of Kumho Station, and the establishment of Wangsimni Station on the GTX-C line.”
He continued, “The most rewarding thing is hearing that 'living in Seongdong-gu makes residents proud and that Seongdong-gu has become a place people want to move to.' If given another chance by the residents, I will make Seongdong-gu not just a top 5 district in Seoul but the number one autonomous district,” expressing his ambition.
At the ceremony, Shin Dong-wook, a current Seongdong-gu council member from the People Power Party representing the Eungbong and Seongsu areas (District La), attended and made an unusual remark, saying, “Regardless of party, the person who works well should naturally become the mayor.”
