Hyundai Heavy Industries Chairman Kwon Oh-gap Visits Pangyo R&D Center... "Core of Technological Innovation"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, visited the construction site of the Pangyo Global R&D Center (hereinafter GRC), which will play a central role in the group's future technology management, to check the progress.
On the 13th, Chairman Kwon held an inspection meeting at the GRC under construction in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, attended by presidents of major affiliates. Hyundai Heavy Industries Group aims to move into the GRC by November this year.
Chairman Kwon said, "The GRC will be the core for Hyundai Heavy Industries Group to leap into a new 50 years through technological innovation," adding, "We will create a top-level working environment so that employees can fully demonstrate their capabilities." He also encouraged the Hyundai Construction workers on site responsible for the GRC construction and urged them to pay special attention to safety.
Present at the meeting were Chairman Kwon, Jung Ki-sun, President of HD Hyundai, Ga Sam-hyun, Vice Chairman of Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Kang Dal-ho, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Oilbank, Joo Young-min, President of Hyundai Oilbank, Son Dong-yeon, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Genuine, Cho Young-chul, President of Hyundai Genuine, Choi Cheol-gon, Vice President of Hyundai Construction Equipment, Cho Seok, President of Hyundai Electric, Park Jong-hwan, Vice President of Hyundai Energy Solutions, and other representatives of major affiliates.
The GRC has a total floor area of 53,000 pyeong, with 20 floors above ground and 5 floors underground, currently showing an 87% construction progress rate. A total of 17 companies, including HD Hyundai, Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Hyundai Genuine, and Hyundai Oilbank, are scheduled to move in. Approximately 5,000 employees, including R&D engineering personnel, will work there.
The GRC is expected to gather the group's technological capabilities in one place to maximize synergy and play a pivotal role in securing new technologies, including basic research related to the group's product development.
In particular, the GRC applies the nation's best energy efficiency system to minimize energy consumption and enable building lifecycle management. It also installs shared offices and meeting rooms to facilitate collaboration among companies and introduces smart work systems to allow employees to fully unleash their creativity.

Additionally, the center will be equipped with a promotional hall featuring the group's history and products, some experiential facilities, a digital library, a creative lounge, a customer lounge, a convention center, a data center, a fitness center for employee convenience, and a daycare center.
