[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] Kim Chang-gi, the former head of the Busan Regional Tax Office, who was nominated by President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 13th as the first Commissioner of the National Tax Service (NTS), is a seasoned tax official who has held key positions throughout the NTS.
In a statement released on the same day titled "A Message," nominee Kim said, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as the nominee for the Commissioner of the National Tax Service, which is responsible for securing national financial resources."
He added, "I will sincerely prepare for the confirmation hearing while deeply reflecting on the roles and tasks that the public currently demands from the national tax administration."
Kim entered public service in 1994 by passing the 37th Administrative Examination. Since then, he has served as Head of the Tax Administration Public Relations Division, Director of the Tax Collection and Legal Affairs Bureau at the Busan Regional Tax Office, Director of the Tax Collection and Litigation Bureau at the Central Regional Tax Office, Director of the Voluntary Tax Compliance Support Bureau at the Central Regional Tax Office, Director of the Investigation Division 2 at the Seoul Regional Tax Office, Auditor of the National Tax Service, Director of the Individual Taxpayer Bureau at the NTS, Commissioner of the Central Regional Tax Office, and Commissioner of the Busan Regional Tax Office.
He is recognized for his excellent planning skills and outstanding organizational management capabilities, based on his extensive experience and knowledge of overall national tax administration.
He is widely regarded for contributing to the realization of fair taxation and the establishment of tax law order by strictly responding to unfair tax evasion practices such as illegal outflow of corporate funds, wealth transfer through irregular capital transactions, and unfair transactions among related parties.
Upon passing the confirmation hearing by the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee, he will become the first retired NTS official to assume the position of Commissioner.
