A 'Favorable Wind' Blows in the Performance Market... Rapid Increase in Ticket Reservations
Interpark Q2 Concert Ticket Sales Up 267%
Wemakeprice April 3rd-4th Week Performance Ticket Sales Over 6 Times Higher
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] A fresh breeze is blowing through the performance market, which faced many difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ticket sales for performances on major platforms have surged around the announcement of the lifting of social distancing measures.
According to Interpark, the sales amount for concert performances held in the second quarter of this year increased by 267% compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the number of concert products held in the second quarter rose from 246 last year to 353 this year, marking a 43.5% increase.
The fact that sales increased by 267% compared to a 43.5% increase in the number of concerts is analyzed to be due to the removal of quarantine guidelines such as spaced seating and capacity limits, which significantly increased the number of spectators that can be accommodated per performance, and many popular performances sold out.
Yoon Hee-jin, team leader of Interpark Concert Consulting Team, said, "With the recent easing of social distancing and quarantine guidelines, various concerts comparable to those at the end of the year are being held and are thriving. Since many concerts are scheduled for the second half of the year as well, we expect a fresh breeze in the concert market this year, which had only recovered 25.9% compared to the pre-COVID-19 era in 2021."
At Wemakeprice, total ticket sales for performances in the 3rd and 4th weeks of April increased by 583.3% compared to the previous two weeks. In particular, all major performance tickets opened after the announcement of the lifting of social distancing measures sold out.
Since last month, Wemakeprice has consecutively opened reservations for tickets to major domestic festivals such as the 14th Seoul Jazz Festival 2022, S2O KOREA Songkran Music Festival, Beautiful Mint Life 2022, 2022 Seoul Park Music Festival, and Waterbomb Seoul 2022. The 'Seoul Jazz Festival,' held for the first time in three years, and the 'S2O KOREA Songkran Music Festival,' making its debut in Korea, sold out all sessions within one minute of sales opening. Tickets for 'Beautiful Mint Life,' 'Seoul Park Music Festival,' and 'Waterbomb' also sold out on the day they were released.
Although normal performances were difficult to hold due to social distancing over the past two years, demand appears to have exploded simultaneously with the full lifting of restrictions on large concerts and festivals from April 18.
