The Busan Port North Port Phase 1 Redevelopment began in 2008 to provide the idle North Port, which became underutilized after the opening of Busan New Port in 2006, as a waterfront space for citizens. With a total area of 1.53 million square meters and a project cost of approximately 2.4 trillion KRW, it is Korea's first large-scale port redevelopment project. Bando Construction served as the lead company and carried out the waterfront park construction.
Bando Construction, which obtained a landscaping construction license in 2016, won the contract for the "North Port Phase 1 Redevelopment Waterfront Park Construction" as the representative company in 2020, four years later. Construction began in June 2020 and was completed within two years.
Main facilities include a 60-meter-wide pedestrian deck linked with the integrated development of the old downtown, a neighborhood park approximately 17 times the size of a soccer field, and a scenic waterway about 1.3 km long connected to the sea, offering a panoramic view of Busan Port. Additionally, Bando Construction is set to complete by the end of this month an urban wildflower garden (including rapeseed and chrysanthemums) covering 89,000 square meters, the largest in Korea, within the landmark district.
