Gangdong-gu Operates Library for Special Education and Rehabilitation Therapy Tools for Disabled Persons
Opening of a Library for Special Education and Rehabilitation Tools for Disabled Persons at Gangdong-gu Disabled Family Support Center on the 10th: Lending Various Rehabilitation Tools to Support Continuous Development of Disabled Persons
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu will operate the ‘Library of Special Education and Rehabilitation Therapy Tools for the Disabled’ starting from the 10th to support families with disabled members who find it difficult to receive rehabilitation therapy services due to economic burdens and environmental constraints.
This ‘Library of Special Education and Rehabilitation Therapy Tools for the Disabled’ was promoted as a 2022 Gangdong-gu resident participatory budget project and is managed by the Gangdong-gu Disabled Family Support Center, which is dedicated to protecting the health and smiles of families with disabled members in Gangdong-gu. The library was established within the center.
At the library, it is possible to rent various rehabilitation tools that can help promote continuous development for the disabled, including ▲ sensory integration tools such as balance boards and super tunnels ▲ psychomotor tools such as trampolines and gym ball chairs ▲ occupational cognitive tools such as finger training stands and therapeutic benches ▲ speech therapy tools such as vibration massagers and breathing training devices ▲ as well as manual wheelchairs, books, and more.
Meanwhile, the Gangdong-gu Disabled Family Support Center (Director Kang Ji-hyang), which operates the newly established library, supports disabled families to play a central role as welfare providers who assist other disabled families through peer counseling and parent education. Especially during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, when the caregiving burden on disabled families increased, the center actively provided emergency care services for the disabled, serving as a reliable support for disabled households during difficult times.
The ‘Emergency Care’ operated by the center is divided into ‘Vacation Care’ for disabled students during school breaks and ‘Daily Care’ for severely disabled individuals aged 6 to under 65. In the case of ‘Daily Care,’ if the caregiver is absent due to hospital treatment, hospitalization, employment activities, education, marriage, or funerals and family events requiring care, up to 64 hours of care services for the disabled can be provided annually.
For more detailed information about using the ‘Library of Special Education and Rehabilitation Therapy Tools for the Disabled’ and emergency care, please contact the Gangdong-gu Disabled Family Support Center.
