Suncheon City Legislative Monitor Alliance, Democratic Party Suncheon Nomination "The Beginning Was Grand but the End Was Miserable"
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon Haengui Jeong Monitor Solidarity released a press statement on the 11th, evaluating the Democratic Party of Korea's nomination process in Suncheon as “It started grandly but ended tragically.”
Regarding the upcoming June 1 local elections, they stated, “The nomination noise of the Democratic Party of Korea in the Suncheon area is unusual. There was no reform or innovation. The criteria were ambiguous, and the primary participants are boiling with suspicion and anger,” adding, “Citizens who supported candidate Lee Jae-myung with 85% in the presidential election and expected a reformed and innovative Democratic Party in this local election are cynical, calling it ‘the old Democratic Party again.’”
They continued, “The Democratic Party of Korea could not let go of vested interests. The hegemonic politics of the Democratic Party in Suncheon did not democratize and showed no will to democratize,” asserting that the Suncheon-Gwangyang-Gokseong-Gurye Gap District (Chairman Assemblyman So Byung-chul) bears infinite responsibility for the internal rebellion-like backlash and for failing to meet citizens' expectations regarding this nomination result.
They stated that Assemblyman So Byung-chul should make a responsible statement and apologize for this nomination process that did not meet the citizens' standards.
