Daycare Teacher Abuses Nine 4-Year-Old Children Dozens of Times for Not Taking Naps
Prosecution Referred Without Detention
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A childcare teacher who abused 4-year-old daycare children for not sleeping during nap time and not listening has been referred to the prosecution after an investigation.
On the 10th, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced that they had sent a childcare teacher in her 40s, Ms. A, to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act. The director of the daycare center, who was responsible for management, was also referred to the prosecution under joint penalty regulations.
Ms. A is accused of repeatedly abusing nine 4-year-old children, including Ms. B, at the daycare center where she worked in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, from October to November of last year.
Investigations revealed that she abused the children by pressing down strongly on a seated child's head with her hand or pulling their arms forcefully.
Ms. B's parents reportedly heard from other parents at the same daycare that "children were being hit and scolded by the teacher," and in November of last year, they visited the daycare and discovered signs of abuse by Ms. A while reviewing CCTV footage, after which they reported it to the police.
During the police investigation, Ms. A stated, "The children did not sleep during nap time and did not listen, so I disciplined them and that happened."
