Incheon Airport Expands Baggage Tracking Service... "Easily Check via Mobile Phone"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 10th that it will start a service allowing passengers departing from Incheon Airport to check the location of their checked baggage.
Since 2020, the corporation has been conducting a pilot operation of the 'Baggage Location Tracking Service' in collaboration with Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Air Seoul, and Eastar Jet. In line with the recovery of air travel demand in the post-COVID-19 era, the official service was opened to all airlines starting from the 4th.
The baggage location tracking service allows passengers to check the loading status and location of their baggage by entering essential information (such as the checked baggage barcode number and seat number) through the Incheon Airport website and mobile app. It provides information on whether the baggage checked in by the passenger on their flight has been properly received, the progress of any required opening inspections, and whether the baggage has been loaded onto the aircraft.
The corporation provides necessary information to passengers by integrating all data related to baggage handling flow, including airlines, ground handling companies, and baggage sorting systems, based on the AirBRS, a baggage matching verification system developed domestically at Incheon Airport. It is expected to greatly enhance passenger convenience. Additionally, the corporation plans to expand the service by incorporating RFID technology to enable location tracking not only for departing baggage but also for arriving baggage.
Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "Through the introduction of this service, we hope passengers at Incheon Airport can start their journeys with peace of mind without worrying about their baggage," and added, "We will continue to strive to provide differentiated customer experiences through various technological developments and customer-oriented service innovations."
