[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Park Il-ho, mayor of Miryang City, Gyeongnam, affiliated with the People Power Party, is officially starting his campaign for a third term.
On the afternoon of the 6th, Mayor Park registered as a preliminary candidate for Miryang mayor. With Mayor Park registering as a preliminary candidate, Kim Seong-gyu, deputy mayor of Miryang City, will act as mayor until the local elections on June 1.
The city plans to focus on ensuring the smooth progress of various pending projects and minimizing administrative gaps during the acting period.
Mayor Park, who won the local elections in 2014 and 2018, won the People Power Party’s primary for Miryang mayor last month and is now challenging for a third term.
The Democratic Party has no declared candidates or registered preliminary candidates as of about 20 days before the local elections. As an independent, Kim Byung-tae (63), former head of the Administrative Bureau at Miryang City Hall, has registered as a preliminary candidate.
