[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee, officially announced his intention to run in the upcoming by-election for the Bundang-gap district of Gyeonggi Province on the 1st. Chairman Ahn stated, "I plan to dedicate myself not only to Bundang-gap but also to winning elections in the metropolitan area, including Gyeonggi Province," adding, "I intend to play a role in ensuring that more people are elected so that Gyeonggi Province can develop and cooperate well with the government."
After concluding a public report meeting on regional policy tasks for Gyeonggi Province at the Gyeonggi Institute of Science and Technology Promotion in Suwon on the same day, Chairman Ahn met with reporters and said, "We must win this local election so that the newly launched government can operate state affairs stably and carry out reforms."
He added, "Since the transition committee has not yet held its closing ceremony, I will first share only my position rather than providing a detailed official explanation," and said, "Once the closing ceremony is over, I will share my thoughts as soon as possible."
Regarding demands from inside and outside the party that he should run in Incheon Gyeyang-eul to face off against Lee Jae-myung, senior advisor of the Democratic Party, Chairman Ahn expressed the opposite view that Lee should run in Bundang-gap.
