Sancheong County Table Tennis Team Secures 2nd Place in Pro League, Advances to PS
A Storm in Their First Tournament Since Establishment, Just 1 Point Behind Jecheon City Hall in First Place
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sancheong County Office Table Tennis Team in Gyeongnam secured a spot in the postseason by finishing 2nd in the regular season at their first-ever participation in a professional tournament since the team's establishment.
According to Sancheong County on the 4th, the Sancheong Table Tennis Team, participating in the '2022 Dunamu Korea Professional Table Tennis League (KTTL)' National League (2nd division), confirmed their advancement to the men's postseason (top 3) by achieving an impressive four consecutive wins at the end of the regular season.
On April 30th, Sancheong County Office defeated Jecheon City Office, the league leader, with a commanding 4-0 victory, and then on the 1st, in the final regular season match, they crushed Incheon Facilities Corporation 3-1.
With this, Sancheong County Office recorded 11 wins, 7 losses, and 42 points, securing at least 3rd place. The 1st place Jecheon City Office holds 12 wins, 6 losses, and 43 points, with only a 1-point difference.
The men's postseason for the professional table tennis 2nd division league begins on the 19th. The playoff winner between the 3rd place team and 2nd place Sancheong County Office will face the 1st place Jecheon City Office in the championship series starting on the 21st. Both the playoffs and the championship series are best-of-three matches.
With momentum gained from their winning streak, expectations are high to see if Sancheong County Office can win the remaining two matches and claim the championship title.
Sancheong Table Tennis Team, the first semi-professional team in Sancheong County, was established in early January with head coach Lee Kwang-seon and four players: Jo Jae-jun, Cheon Min-hyeok, Seo Hong-chan, and Kim Su-hwan.
