[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Environment announced on the 3rd that they held a certificate awarding ceremony at the Seoul Press Center for the 30 companies selected as the ‘2022 Green New Deal Promising Companies.’

The Green New Deal Promising Companies 100 Nurturing and Support Project is a program jointly promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Environment since 2020 to foster small and medium enterprises with promising green technologies into leading companies in the global green market.

By 2022, the two ministries selected a total of 100 Green New Deal promising companies (50 by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, 50 by the Ministry of Environment) and provide up to 3 billion KRW in policy funds over three years covering the entire growth cycle from technology development to commercialization. Following the selection of 70 promising companies over the past two years (35 by each ministry), this year the remaining 30 companies (15 by each ministry) were selected.

Among 223 applicant companies in fields such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), circular economy, and renewable energy, 30 promising companies were finally selected through document and presentation evaluations, overcoming an average competition ratio of 7.4:1.

In the green venture sector, companies related to eco-friendly fields such as carbon reduction, green IT, advanced green housing, and green vehicles were selected by evaluating carbon neutrality contribution, suitability for SMEs, and business strategy.

In the green innovation company sector, companies based on future demand were mainly selected, such as those creating added value through recycling of solar panel waste and plastic waste, carbon reduction catalysts, and indoor air big data platforms.

At the awarding ceremony, Cha Jeong-hoon, Director of the Startup Venture Innovation Office at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Kim Beop-jeong, Director of the Climate Carbon Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, attended and personally presented the certificates and plaques to the Green New Deal promising companies. There was also a session to share experiences of excellent companies previously selected to help the growth of the Green New Deal promising companies.

Director Cha stated, “Green New Deal promising companies must play a pivotal role in establishing a green foundation for the transition to an eco-friendly and low-carbon economy,” and added, “We plan to actively support the Green New Deal promising companies selected today so that they can leap beyond Korea to the global stage and play a leading role in the green sector.”

Director Kim said, “The green transition promoted along with the international community’s 2050 carbon neutrality declaration is our new future growth engine,” and added, “We will spare no support for promising green companies so that our companies can secure competitiveness in the global green market.”
