Naju-si Selected for 'Power Equipment Digital Transformation Infrastructure' Project Competition
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it has been selected for the "Power Equipment Digital Transformation Infrastructure Construction" project organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing a project budget of 14.1 billion KRW, including 9.6 billion KRW in national funds.
The Power Equipment Digital Transformation Infrastructure Construction project aims to establish a virtual environment-based research and development platform for next-generation power conversion system technology development in line with the Green New Deal initiatives such as solar power, wind power, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems (ESS).
Through this, it seeks to shorten product development periods, reduce costs, and improve quality and safety for energy small and medium enterprises.
To attract the project, the city signed a cooperation agreement last November with Jeollanam-do, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Energy Valley Enterprise Development Institute, Mokpo National University, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, and companies located in the Innovation Industrial Complex for the "Energy Enterprise Digital Transformation Support and Infrastructure Construction Project."
Additionally, through continuous persuasion of central government ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it succeeded in reflecting 3 billion KRW in national funds as a new project in 2022.
The lead research and development institution, Energy Valley Enterprise Development Institute, plans to establish four types of development testing and certification platforms based on an innovative research and development process in the Naju Innovation Industrial Complex from this year until 2025, in collaboration with the Energy Valley Industry-Academic Convergence Center, Mokpo National University, and Korea Electronics Technology Institute.
In the first year, infrastructure such as support center facilities and equipment will be established, and from the second year, various support activities including product commercialization solutions and equipment utilization will be provided to more than 50 energy companies in the Jeonnam region.
A city official stated, "We will successfully promote the Power Equipment Digital Transformation Infrastructure Construction project so that practical support and benefits can be delivered to small and medium enterprises in the energy sector located in Naju, the energy capital."
