Gwangju Seo-gu Replaces Old Security Lights with LED Lighting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is promoting a project to replace old security lights installed in densely populated residential areas and alleys around school routes with high-efficiency LED lights, creating pleasant alleys and establishing a safe Seo-gu Ilbeonji.
Seo-gu announced on the 2nd that it is investing about 700 million won in the first half of this year to replace about 1,500 streetlights in Gwangcheon-dong and five other neighborhoods, as well as vulnerable areas, to create a pleasant and safe neighborhood.
Additionally, with a budget of about 100 million won, approximately 70 security lights around residential areas in Pungam-dong and two schools (Unri Elementary School, Unri Middle School) will be replaced to resolve residents' inconveniences and create a bright, pleasant, and safe environment in the alleys.
The replacement of these old security lights will take place from this month until July. It will not only ensure the safety of electrical facilities and transform the urban landscape into a cleaner image but also significantly contribute to reducing electricity bills (about 2,730 won per light) in this era of high oil prices.
A Seo-gu official said, “Inconveniences caused by dark and old road lighting are closely related to residents' safety and leisure activities, so we will take the lead in replacing them in advance to resolve inconveniences and create a safe Seo-gu.”
