Fire at Church in Bangok-dong, Wonju City... Major Flames Controlled After Over 3 Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] On the 1st, a fire broke out at a church in Bangok-dong, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do, and the large flames were brought under control after about 3 hours and 10 minutes. There were no casualties from the fire, but the entire building was completely burned down.
The fire started around 1:49 PM on the 4th floor of a church in Bangok-dong, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do. It is known that church pastors and others resided on that floor, and there was no church service held that day.
The fire department issued a Level 1 response around 2:28 PM as the fire spread emitting black smoke, deploying 35 fire trucks, 2 firefighting helicopters, and about 120 firefighting personnel to extinguish the fire. However, strong winds and the water streams dropped from the firefighting helicopters not properly reaching the flames made firefighting efforts difficult.
