On the 29th, a six-story mixed-use residential and commercial building collapsed in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, resulting in 23 deaths and 39 people missing.
Chinese media, including Beijing Youth Daily, reported on the 30th that rescue and search operations conducted since the previous day have saved 5 people and recovered 23 bodies. Rescue authorities stated that they are continuing to search for the 39 missing individuals.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on the same day, "We must make every effort to rescue the injured and missing, thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident, and hold those responsible accountable according to the law."
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also emphasized, "We must secure the golden time for rescue to minimize fatalities," and added, "The cause of the accident must be thoroughly identified to prevent major accidents in the construction sector."
