[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 30th, the People Power Party strongly opposed the ruling Democratic Party's forcible passage of the 'Complete Removal of Prosecutorial Investigation Rights (Geomsu Wanbak)' bill.
Song Eon-seok, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, spoke in opposition during the National Assembly plenary session, stating, "The forcible passage of the Geomsu Wanbak law is a shield law to protect their own members, a declaration of legislative dictatorship to the public that aims to hide and blatantly protect power-related corruption that has been buried for five years." He added, "Even if judicial reform is necessary, the procedures carried out like a military operation using all sorts of tricks and loopholes are absolutely unacceptable."
Senior spokesperson Heo Eun-ah also released a statement that day, saying, "The logic of power disguised as majority rule has betrayed democracy in the Republic of Korea," and sharply criticized, "Unilateral majority rule is nothing but the dictatorship of the majority."
They also strongly criticized the Democratic Party's 'splitting of sessions' to limit the People Power Party's filibuster (unlimited debate). Senior spokesperson Heo said, "With endless tricks upon tricks, the Democratic Party forcibly passed the amendment to the Prosecutors' Office Act," adding, "The public is watching this arbitrary parliamentary outrage that ignores both precedent and procedure with grave concern." Song also said, "This is a petty act with an obvious intention to nullify the legitimate resistance tool of the minority party opposing the 'Geomsu Wanbak' evil law, the unlimited debate, and a legislative rampage," adding, "They are using all sorts of tricks to violate the legislature and declare a public war."
On the same day, the National Assembly held a plenary session and, led by the Democratic Party, voted on the amendment to the Prosecutors' Office Act, which reduces the scope of direct prosecutorial investigation rights, and on the resolution to end the National Assembly's temporary session that day.

Before the plenary session convened, the People Power Party visited the Speaker's office in protest, urging the halt of Geomsu Wanbak. People Power Party members shouted slogans such as "Stop the Lee Jae-myung Shield Law," "Oppose Geomsu Wanbak, an attempt to conceal power corruption," and "The people also oppose Geomsu Wanbak, stop it," attempting to block Speaker Park Byeong-seok's entry to the plenary session. During this process, a physical scuffle broke out between People Power Party members and staff in the Speaker's office.
