High School Student Missing for 23 Days in Gimpo After Leaving Phone and Card Behind... Found Thanks to Citizen Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A high school student who went missing in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province was found thanks to a citizen's report and safely returned to his family after 23 days.
On the 29th, the Gimpo Police announced that they found the high school student A (15) around 9 p.m. the previous day at a shopping area in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, and handed him over to his family.
Earlier, A left home on the 6th saying he was going to school, but he left his cellphone and cards in the home mailbox and did not return home.
A’s mother reported to the police, saying, "My son left home saying he was going to school, but he did not attend." At the time of his disappearance, A was wearing a navy zip-up top, beige school uniform pants, and carrying a black backpack.
The police discovered that A had called home from a public phone on the 12th, traced the number, and confirmed his last whereabouts through CCTV footage at Jakjeon Station in Gyeyang-gu. When A’s whereabouts remained unknown, the police publicly announced his disappearance and requested tips.
Then, on the 26th, they received a tip from a citizen who said, "I saw someone resembling A while driving in Gyeyang-gu," and upon investigation, found A at a shopping area in Gyeyang-gu.
A was wearing the same clothes as when he went missing and was in good health at the time of discovery. There were no signs of criminal victimization.
