Yoon Emphasizes Semiconductors on Second Day of Chungcheong Tour
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol visited advanced technology research sites in the Chungcheong region and KAIST on the 29th, emphasizing government-level support for advanced science and technology.
Reflecting on his 1-night, 2-day visit to the Chungcheong area, President-elect Yoon stated at the Nano Convergence Technology Institute, "I will keep my promise made during the election to make South Korea a semiconductor superpower," adding, "We will establish an industry-academia-research cooperation cluster where the government and private sector jointly develop technology and nurture talent, supporting the commercialization of research achievements from universities and companies."
He said, "These days, there is a saying that wars are not fought with guns but with semiconductors," and added, "Semiconductors are a core strategic industry leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution based on artificial intelligence and data. Countries around the world are putting their lives on the line to secure semiconductor technology and excellent talent. We will build a system that ensures fair compensation for researchers and developers."
Following an inspection of the semiconductor cleanroom and testbed at the Nano Convergence Technology Institute, President-elect Yoon held a meeting with KAIST students.
